Woke up around 2 AM Saturday to check the Red Sox Score (West coast trip - late games) Ended up making some coffee and staying up so I took to ebay. Found an interesting, newly listed lot that had minimal pictures but a decent description and after reading it several times and looking at the included pictures, I decided I had to give it a shot. Would have kicked myself for months wondering what I had missed.

Well, it showed up today and the first sign that this was gonna be cool was the priority mail box:

Here's most of the pages I just finished scanning:

http://home.comcast.net/~zeppelin33.../Estate.html

53 pages so I self hosted rather than make people load them all up if not interested.

I didn't bother scanning anything from 1930 on up but it's pretty much complete through 1957

That cover is terrific. But the contents are pretty awesome too. Should have gotten up earlier to make coffee on Saturday! Nice one.

Something I have never seen is the P P on the selvage of the 2c Columbian "broken hat" - who knows about that?

It was a BIN and a bit more than I'm usually willing to blindly throw out there but seeing what I hoped was a mint 15c Columbian even though the seller didn't mention it along with a bunch of mint Washington/Franklins was enough to pull the trigger. Really glad I did.

Tonight I'll start separating things from the album and get a better scan of some of the highlights.

That P P on the Broken hat was intriguing to me as well. I was assuming that places the stamp dead center on the bottom of the sheet but I've never seen a whole sheet so I really have no idea.

Forgot to scan the Prexies but they're complete and all mint except the $5

Have mercy If I had had that collection as a teen, I could have died happy. It is only many years later that I could have many of the early issues.

I know what you mean. I'm 46 and coming across stuff like this even now gets me excited like a little kid. And this seems to be the norm for me - just dumb luck I guess.

The anticipation waiting for it was killing me.

I can't understand sellers, and this guy is a coin dealer, not taking the time to properly scan collections to get the most out of it. Only took me about 30 minutes to scan, crop and resize all those pages and I know at auction, it would have gone for a lot more than what I paid

It looks like he raided the stuff from the sixties to put on the envelope that brought it to you. From the duplication he must have been using extra postage material. I noticed the Hammersjold issue, but did he use two copies of the invert on this as well (lower left of the plastered side)? Of what we saw I thought that the representation of the Wash-Frank series was particularly strong. Nice catch!

This one was just a search for "stamp album" and sorted by newly listed and BIN. I have a few other tricks I use as well but not on this one.

I think it was only listed for a few hours starting late Friday night. Doubt it would have made it through the next day though.

Early bird caught the worm :)

Be sure to double-check those WF's to see if any were put in the wrong place. Nice find.

Oh Yeah - Can't wait to start sorting through the WFs. I know I'll fill a few holes and upgrade quite a few that I didn't have mnh before. I attacked and identified all mine a few months ago until I was burned out on them. Ready to do it again now.

I'm there's more than a few misidentified ones in there. I can see offset issues mounted with the early ones that don't belong where they are.

Should keep me busy for a while.
