Here are the 1st 15 pages of the 1955 Harris catalog.

Thought you guys might get a kick out of the prices you could buy stamps for almost 60 years ago.

Yes, inflation and knowledge have that nasty effect of increasing prices over time. I do note that the condition of their items is classified as "Average" or "entirely satisfactory to the great majority of collectors." If you wanted Fine or Very Fine, you would be expected to pay a premium over the prices indicated. I also don't see anything about mounting or not-mounted. All in all, probably equivalent to today's general prices (with some exceptions, of course.) Thanks for posting.

Consider the 25-cent catalog back in 1955 compared to the 2013 edition that I believe is $26.95. Granted, the newer catalogs are much larger (they have to be, based on the increased number of stamps) and, of course, they are larger is size and format, and incorporate color images, but still -- $26.95 as compared to 25-cents -- that's a 10,780% increase in the price of their catalog!

Almost spot-on for the #1.

The BLS inflation calculator shows $15.75 in 1955 had the same buying power as $132.19 in 2011.

The 2011 Scott Specialized value for a VG #1 was $135.
