This was one from my latest purchase. It appears used with the scribble on the front but the back has undisturbed gum so I'm assuming someone regummed it? Also this would be a red brown 75 right? It's in the book as a 95 but there's no grille thanks

68W@: If you look closely perforation holes if re-perforated does not appear to be on same line, take a look at bottom of perforation, draw line visually from first perf. to the last. They can also look with much sharper edges. Stamp can also look more narrow. There is many different aspects. |

The washed cancel is another clue to a regum job. Also, take a look at the perf tips. A person reapplying glue would tape of the tips to keep from showing gum in the perfs. This type of regumming cause the tips to be clean. |

When you look at the tips of the perforations from the face, they appear to be discolored. This is from the gum getting on the front of the tips when being applied after perforating (in other words, regummed). See this article that has good pointers for discerning regummed stamps: http://www.hgitner.com/regummed-stamps.htmlC/ |

Thanks for that link - nice article
I've never really had much experience with classics that still had gum - most of my pre-1900 stamps had been used. Learning new stuff everyday
And by the way, the stamp above is so small when compared to a similar stamp, I wouldn't be surprised if it the entire stamp is reperfed :) |

Mike33....my thoughts on this stamp..... Color is faded. The color is incorrect. Probably faded color due to trying to remove pen cancel (thus adding gum, RG). Also reperfed (you know that already) |

Is it curled? Do the tiny fibers from being torn from another stamp have gum on them (use a 10x magnifier for this if you've got one)?

It almost looks as though the left side had been re-perfed. There are basically no margins here. |

regummed, cleaned cancel and reperfed at left (and possibly elsewhere) - a poster child for monkeying with a stamp |
