Won this back quite a few months ago -then immediately returned it and received a full refund. So I was surprised - well sort of surprised - to see it re-listed as if nothing had happened.

((By the way, nice fuzzy picture guys))

I'd still like to get a nice 4 margin #17, but not one with this huge repair - of course not noted in original or current auction.
(I don't consider this an "expert repair" referred to in the disclaimer)

Here's a closeup of the repaired area. This thing goes from left margin, to GW's chin, then back out to the left margin again through the space between the T and W.

The whitish area over the W should have clued me in. I guess I didn't want to see it - - - live and learn.

Yikes. I wonder how many people on ebay just want your money. It's the dishonest that make it harder for all the honest ones. How much did you pay? (if you don't mind me asking)

I can totally see that repair in the listing photo now that you've pointed it out. Thanks for taking the time to share this potentially costly lesson.

Good space filler for $30-35 but that's about all.

It's interesting that's there's really no description of the stamp beyond the title. Actually there's isn't one at all.

Technically the second picture is against ebay's new rules because of the writing.

As has been said before, anyone can write a "value". It is up to the buyer to know what he is looking for in a stamp.
There are a couple of big sellers on ebay that only show scans with a value listed. I don't remember ever seeing any other information about the stamp, but of course there are the disclaimers!
I try to avoid even looking at these sellers' items even though they start at .01 because they always explode way out of my price range.
I believe that repairs, regumming, thins, tears should be mentioned on high value stamps! I would like to assume that the seller is relatively honest.
741opamp: I'm glad this all worked out for you. I do pity the next buyer!

Hi all,

Just for fun, I sent a question to the seller. Here is what I got back,

"Thank you for your interests. There is no indication of any damaged area on the stamp. The white spot appears to be a clerical collar.

best regards,
victoria

- nystamps"

Huh? Buyer beware, but as others have said, they do tend to have an excellent return policy.

Thanks for the comments, I have been away from my computer for the last 5 days, otherwise I would have responded sooner. I had heard on this forum previously about the dicey reputation of the nystamps, but also knew they sell some stuff that is OK. And going in I knew of their refund policy. But it was a mistake to bid on this one - I will be more careful in future. Partime, great experiment, what a crock from nystamps. Heck of a place for GW to be wearing a clerical collar, on his shoulder!

ebay is not what is used to be for stamp quality, about half of what I purchase has obvious defects not mentioned by the seller. Nothing like my experience with bidstart, where I bought relatively common Canadian stamps to fill some holes and - no kidding - 7 of the 8 people I bought from sent stamps with defects that were not noted in the item description. All offered replacements, or refunds. Life's too short, no more bidstart for me.

Here is a #16 from the same seller. I hope the buyer gets a cert because if he/she doesn't the truth is going to sting. Item #380705821024. The recut at bottom has actually been drawn in by hand.
