Sharks-- the color guide you've posted will not help for the 3c 1861. There is no guide that will help-- there has never been a published listing.
Take a look at one of my other posts:
A few shades for the US #88 E-GrillA few more shades of the 3c 1861 A25 stamp identifiedImages of some of the 3c #65 shadesIn the last one, you'll see some articles that I've listed that were penned by Mike McClung, who is the philatelist that has ID'd the 54 shades, and assigned rarity factors.
You can also purchase a specific color guide, which also will not help:
"Three Cents Washington 1861-1862, Color Guide for Scott #64 & 65"We know that the stamp was printed from August of 1861 into 1869. The printing process wasn't perfected in the 19th century, and so each batch of ink was a little different, thus the different shades. The articles that I've posted, if you join USPCS, or pay for the articles, will help you understand how it all happened.
Then, it's a matter of collecting the stamps on year-dated covers, and that will help you to identify the shades. I've only been doing this for a couple of years now, and I have a bunch more to ID-- it's not easy when you're red-green color blind like I am.

Hope this is helpful. I've posted a bunch of stuff on this stamp, all easily findable if you look at my profile and posts.
Take care-- Ray
