The self adhesive stamps have presented a challenge. There just isn't any selvage attached to the stamp. Well I have solved that with two recent letters sent out to members. Enjoy the chrome & fins stamps but I hope you find the selvage a nice addition. That takes a little work to put it all in place.
It just might make an interesting cover for the future. hey when you get them post a photo so I can see how it looks with a cancel on it.
Often I try to add selvage pieces and plate numbers to the self-adhesive stamps on envelopes I send out. I hope some of these covers survive and will be prized by future collectors.
With the inability of soaking stamps off a cover successfully, we may be seeing more covers saved by collectors intact. I tried making a cover with the addition of selvage for the star wars issue, but it just made a mess. I was piecing together the selvage to make a cachet.
I collect U.S. stamps with marginal markings. I did receive a 90˘ airmail stamp, on an envelope, with a marginal marking attached. I kept it on piece and it is in my collection.
I also collect single uses of U.S. airmail stamps showing the correct rate that the stamp paid, posted in Texas. I received a 69˘ airmail with the whole corner margins, with the plate number on a cover from a fellow I trade stamps with in Texas.
Collecting the marginal markings on the current self-adhesive American stamps is not impossible, just difficult. When you do get one... Yippeeee!!
