In a stamp collection I recently purchased is a stamp I had difficulty determining what it is. It seems that it may be a scott# 65-TC1 trial color proof, this one is green. However, it was used for postage and has a cancel on it. I can find no information about it anywhere. I am hoping some here more knowledgeable will know something about it.

On the back of the stamp in pencil is written the number 55, so I assume it was a proof scott# 55 until the color was picked to produce the scot# 65 which is blue. I know there are other color proofs of the same stamp, but am curious as to the use of this one as postage with a cancel and what value it is. It wasn't listed in the 2009 Scott catalog.

Here are some images of it. I had to take photo with cellphone camera as I do not have a scanner at the moment. Thanks in advance for any help.

I do know that they were not meant to be used as postage but somehow this one got through.

Welcome Rjf. Your stamp appears to be a trimmed Scott #63 with an altered color. Colors can change due to exposure to air, sunlight, chemicals, etc..

The stamp at the top of the thread is not a green trial color proof. A comparison of the impressions proves that. The proofs were printed from brand new plates, and are VERY clear, sharp impressions. They show every line in fine detail. Ink is abrasive, and printing causes the plates to wear over time, making fine lines difficult or impossible to see. The stamp at the top was clearly printed from a working plate that had been in use for a while. Compare the first stamp with the proof on the link above.
