I have inherited an extensive U.S. and World Wide collection. It was my Grandfather's and his brother's collection and has been in storage since 1940.
I have been organizing the stamps for the last few years and I think I may have found many good ones but wanted some opinions of a few before I send them off for certification (I don't want to lose the money if they are fake).
Sooooo, what are your opinions? Real or Fake???
Any and all help is much appreciated!

Well, I certainly like what I see, but am nowhere near an expert on these issues. I wish you the best of luck, and can't wait to hear further comments from this board.

Wow! If those are genuine (and to my eyes they certainly look like it) It would appear you have a Scott #2 and a Postmaster's Provisional (from New York) Scott #9X1 Both could prove to be very valuable if they are genuine. The next one I'm not really familiar with but is similar to the very early Hawaiian issues. I'm not too great on the Confederate issues but the next one looks like a CSA #9 to me. The Blue Franklin could be one of quite a few that look similar, so one of our resident experts will have to chime in to help out with that one. Your Grandfather had a great eye and what looks to be a fabulous collection! I'm looking forward to seeing more! -Jeff

The bottom stamp appears to be a #24 that has had the perforations trimmed.

The 9X1 appears genuine, but the red initials are very faded, it has a pen cancel and is cut in on the bottom. Even if it is genuine it will probably not have a lot of value.

The Scott 2 is quite possibly a Sperati forgery. Not as valuable as a genuine unused 2, but certainly a nice find.

The Hawaiian stamp (Scott 4) should have blue printing (according to the Scott Catalog), leading me to think it is a fake. However, I don't collect stamps from Hawaii, so take that with a grain of salt.

As stated before, certification is necessary. Good luck.

Here is a site you can check the Hawaii issue http://www.hawaiianstamps.com/mi_current.html
It certainly appears that your Hawaii stamp is a fake.
