Both were issued no gum. I believe the 735 was only issued in panes of 6 stamps, where the 768 was issued in bigger sheets. That's what gives us the gutter pairs, gutter blocks, block of 12 stamps (2 panes of 6) and so on.
You might be able to tell a single pane of the 735 from the 768 based on the size.
The 750 and 751 were gummed, where the 769 and 768 reprints were not. But I've read that the Post Office Department offered to gum full sheets of the Farleys, so that's not even a sure thing.
I have considered this in the past. I have come to the conclusion that it is not possible to differentiate a single sheet of one from the other. If you have cross gutter examples, then yes.
Raymodj makes the point that the POD offered to and did gum sheets sent in, but the notation in Scott does not include the sheet in that offer, as far as I can tell from the short note.
