Hello, I would like to know your opinion(s) on selling an Inverted Jenny. I have not had it officially graded, but has been well taken care of. It was purchased in 1969/70 and it is time to part with it. Please, serious answers only.

Heres a serious answer..take it to a reputable Auction house..i have no idea where you live..i will go out on a limb if you live in the New York area and say Cherry Stone Auctions,,,if you live in California H.R. Harmer . they will offer you a choice of buying it from you outright or putting it out to auction for you..then you make the decision to gamble or not to gamble ! |

It won't be worth selling until it is graded and certified. Then email all the auction houses and ask this same question. |

An inverted Jenny needs to have certificate of authenticity..not necessarily graded..but mind you that if there are faults with the stamp you might want to get it graded as well. Then a big auction house will gladly auction it off for you. |

Where does one go to get it certified? I'm sure it is authentic, but will surely want to take all the necessary steps to get full value. Thanks for your help so far! (I'm in the Midwest) If I choose not to auction, is there a place to sell privately? I do not want to use ebay. My aim is to sell it to someone who would appreciate it as much as it has been appreciated thus far, and if a private buyer is a better fit, I don't necessarily have to auction to the highest bidder, who just wants it as a conquest. |

May we inquire where you purchased it from ? You realize the odds of it being authentic are slim to none ? |

I have doubts as to the plausibility of this thread. Could we see some scans to verify that we indeed are talking about one of the scarce Inverts? No one who had one of these would even consider ebay as an option, and their copy would have certainly been certified by now. |

You do not need to get it certified - yet. There are 100 inverted Jenny stamps. All are well documented. If you go to the Siegel website, www.siegelauctions.com , and download the catalog for their sale of the Jenny plate block www.siegelauctions.com/2005/901/901.pdf . On page 20, there is a photographic reproduction of the sheet of stamps. You can also use their "Power search" to find the prices realized for "C3a" which is the catalog number for the stamp. Likewise, you can search the Philatelic Foundation database to see if your stamp was ever expertized (again, search for C3a). Once you co this and have pretty good confidence that the stamp is real (which you should know anyway if you have paperwork from a reputable seller), call the folks at Siegel (ask for Scott, Jonathan, or Cory) and let them know what you have and ask them what they can do for you. They will be able to authenticate and describe the stamp properly but it may be bought subject to certification. In this case, the buyer would pay for the certificate. However, they may advise you to get the certificate prior to sale, if they think it would lead to a price that would more than compensate for the costs. Good luck. Chip |

I would definately not use ebay to sell an expensive item like an inverted jenny. Primarily because, a lot of potential buyers will not be willing to risk a high purchase on ebay. Get it certified and then take it to a reputable auctioneer. |

Unless you fished that out of a sweeper bag a very long time ago, I doubt you having an authentic inverted Curtiss Jenny. I would be very keen on seeing a scan of it. |

If you didn't get any type of paper work as in a certificate when you purchased it I would be wary. If you intend of selling it you will need to have it certified and graded. I don't believe anyone would think of purchasing it without both. If it is indeed real sell it to the highest bidder. I mean you want to get all you can for it. Yes; contact Siegels' |

Here are a few places you can get it certified and/or graded. http://stamps.org/Stamp-Authenticationhttp://www.psestamp.com/Once you have it certified/graded the auctions houses do have a clientele that they cater to. If by contacting them they would act as middleman to a potential buyer on your behalf. For a jenny invert you should be able to sell it no problem. I been looking at the other posts. I do have to say that I'm also doubtful. I would love to see a scan though. =) |

I was doubtful from the very first post. If a member in my family had a collectible of such note and worth such as an inverted Jenny, everyone would be well aware of it, and how to sell it if the need arose.
Having said that, the times when I am wrong greatly exceed the times when I have been right, therefore I give you the benefit of the doubt. :) |
