Based on your other posts, you may have acquired a collection with altered stamps. To my still untrained eye, it looks like a 319 straight edge on the right with the left perfs trimmed off. There are experts here that can give you a more definite answer. |

Definitely not a contemporary usage, you can tell by the duplex. I'm relatively certain they wasn't in use in 1903+ Also looks like it has been doctored a bit as the perfs was trimmed on one side. |

Without seeing the stamp.... right side looks trimmed...cut is straingt and clean, whereas left side looks like some wear.
Check the watermark......and reply back. Regular? upside down? horizontal? inverted??

I am using a Signoscope (SAFE) Watermark detector I bought last month. and it appears to me the watermark is 191 and appears upside down. |

I feel so much like a rookie even though I have been collecting since I was 6 years old. Didn't really get back in to it until a few years ago. Spent a lot of time building up a successful business and now have a better ability to buy better things. I just keep coming across interesting items in this last huge collection I bought. About 3 Billion stamps in 90banker boxes and over 150 albums from two old dealers. Very cool things but enough to keep me hunting for years to come.
Thank you for your comments and I look forward to the comments. |

tazzmann30....after looking at the stamp again.... it is a FAKE. The #321 is a TYPE I....this stamp is a TYPE II. Clearly the leaf on the left DOES NOT TOUCH the white. Sorry... |

Thank you for noticing. Check out the next stamp I found. This collection is amazing, a bunch of fakes. Very good one's I must say. |

I'm still having problems catching reperfs. Looking at it now I see the perf tips on the top are nice and straight, probably too straight. And the bottom perfs look like they were done after the cancel. I just can't figure out that trademark "pull" and shape of genuine vs fake. So a type II makes it a 320a? Why reperf a 320a when you could find a straight edge 319 and just trim the other edge. In fact I'm pretty sure that's what I meant to say in my original post. Not how they did it, but how they should have done it. |

Quote: So a type II makes it a 320a? That is not correct....319 and 320s can be both type I and type IIs. EX...#319f, 319h, 319i, 319j, 319k and 319q are ALL type IIs. |

Also....going from memory.... The reason I asked about the watermark earlier.... I think the watermark on the booklets are horizontal...(going from memory, early here) Most unknowing fakers take the booklet stamp (already with a straight edge) and trim the opposite side to fake the coil. |

Well then, Upside down watermark? Is it worth sending it somewhere to be authenticated or not? |

Sorry for the confusion, I didn't pose the question very well. I didn't mean that 320a is the only type II, but was asking if this particular stamp is a modified 320a. Al mentioned that it looked to be a reperf top and bottom. Looking at it closely I can see possible signs of a reperf, but I'm still learning so want all the opinions and information I can get. I've learned a great deal in my 2 short months on this forum. |
