raymodj...I would say not. The color for #320a is LAKE.
That is a very different shade from carmine.
My guess....319j...trimmed on right side.
Looking at the scan...the right side looks sharp, the left side looks like straight edge
after 100+ years, not a clean cut.
That is just my opinion.....

Thanks, that's what I'm after.

One common answer I find in stamp collecting is "once you've seen it enough times, you just know". So I'm looking for examples and opinions. Color shades is another area I just haven't had much chance to explore.

Sometime ago I posted my #322 stamp and the advise was to get it authenticated, I haven't done that yet but will. I may have made a mistake by soaking and removing the part of the envelope that was left on the stamp. Good luck with your #321.

Dale Kramer....You should soak ALL of the paper off.
After you do that....take another photo....higher resolution, close up.
Please note....99.9999% fake.
