As I collect these covers trying to identify shades by dates, I've also kept my eye out for some specific dates-- so I've found a 12/25, and a 1/1, and a 7/4 and even a 2/29....but I've also been looking for some specific dates that are historical, and I've finally got one of the two I've been looking for now for a couple of years-- April 15, 1865. I'd also REALLY like to have April 14, 1865....as American history buffs should all know, Lincoln was shot on April 14 and died on April 15, 1865. Here's one I just picked up for $3.50 cancelled on the day that Lincoln died:

Just thrilled to find this one....if anyone has an April 14, 1865 they'd like to part with, please send me an email! Thanks, Ray

Don't know about the date but, I do have a cover where the inclosure talks about Lincoln's assonation and the search for Booth. It's from a Union officer to his sister and it's like your there hearing it for the 1st time, really interesting.

Depending on the extent of the text Art, that is a valuable letter content. The more extensive the descriptions, the more it's worth...... Congratulations!

Next time I'm back at home, I'll make a copy of it and see about posting it. Like I said, it was most interesting, one I'll keep for sure. I may need to provide a translation as it can be difficult to read.
