Going forward from my conversation about a 3 cent 51 (That I thought was a 24L1E but turned out to be a 24L1L) which Classic Coins was very helpful with... Here's the first part of my 3 cent 1851s off cover: The one that got this started: 24L1L, 11A in Brownish Carmine with a green cancel. Another Green Cancel: A blue cancel :) Large Boston Paid: Paid 3:

The rest of the first round: An Orange Brown, also from the Haas sale in 1972. This set a then record for an OB, $80. A nice pair: A couple nice used ones: Sep 17th (1851) New York CDS: A very cool numeral "A" (Anyone familiar with this cancel?) Some neat position pieces: I have a few more to upload, ideally tomorrow. |

Nice stuff. I would post one of mine that could compete with your fancy cancelled OB from the Haas sale if I had more time. Your September 17 NYC cancel is pretty much guaranteed to be an 1852 cancel. |

Bill,
Outstanding collection, with great margins and cancels. That pair sure looks like #10. Is it plated? Aside from the pair and the one you identified as orange brown, all the rest are #11. Are any of these plated? |

Thanks! I'm heading out but I'll post more later tonight. The pair isn't plated. The one with the fancy cancel is, per the auction catalog (We know where that got us last time..) 80L5E, Second one from the bottom says 99R4 on the back (But I don't buy it, the right margin is too wide). Bottom stamp shows 91R4 on the back, and I forgot to post this one, marked 100L4: Bill |

Love that Bridport cancel! Your 25/26 pair are #26. The stamp with the small Boston PAID is notable because the small Boston on an #11A is pretty uncommon. Most, if not all of them, would be on Plate 1L stamps. I see some hint of it being from Plate 1L but I would have to plate it to be sure. |

Thanks! I was waiting for one of you guys to catch that small Boston Paid :) Somewhere I have a plate 1 early with a large Boston paid. Then I have this... small Boston paid in red on cover. The stamp was plated as a 3L1E |

Quote: The stamp with the small Boston PAID is notable because the small Boston on an #11A is pretty uncommon. Yeah, the small Boston PAID on #11 jumped right out at me. I have one or two of them. The stamp with the "Odd red cancel" is a #10. The stamp with the New York September CDS is 6L1L. I love that "Bridport" cancel. That stamp could be a pale claret, but your scans are a little on the bright/pale side. That small red Boston PAID cover is a 17th day of usage. Nice! |
