Is this a pre printing fold? If so, is it considered a defect or an error? Does it add interest? It's unique to me, but I only have a handful of used #73's, so a small sample size.

Looks like one to me. Considered an EFO and there are people who collect them. The more dramatic (greater the fold), the better. I would soak the stamp and gently attempt to flatten the stamp, thus unfolding the fold making it more visible, then press it.

Yes, I will soak it this evening. I'm working on an auction lot I picked up this morning. It's a shame this stamp lost those perfs on the left side.
On the page this stamp was mounted, it was noted as "cracked plate". I actually thought it was more likely a repaired tear...but when trying to preview "lots" at auction, that include multiple pages etc, there isn't time to really look at one item.
This is the first stamp I have that has a fold.

A nice warm bath to float off the hinge and clean it up a bit
certainly wouldn't hurt... but I wouldn't flatten it out to
open up the fold... I'd leave that as an option for a buyer...

disi and rev, I won't attempt to flatten because of my inexperience handling something like this.
I had to google EFO to see it is Errors, freaks and oddities...lol.
I'm hoping, that the #65 I have with the smudge, is EFO also.

Even with the missing perfs, your Blackjack has fabulous centering, and should sell for a decent price if you should decide to offer it...

It looks on the small side to be a pre-printing crease, ordinary creases can look exactly like this as well on a scan.

Once again, a very informative thread, coming at an opportune moment. Thank you, to all, for contributing to this. I, too, was unaware of 'EFO's' and googled it. "Insects imbedded in stamps underneath the ink." I wondered why that little blighter wasn't just easily brushed off! I left it there, as I didn't want to destroy the stamp itself. Figured a good soak would do the trick, when I get to the process and decide which stamps to soak. Something new I just learned.

I am looking at some of these, at this time. I have been attempting to learn of different things Scott will give a number to, such as a cap over a left, right, or both, two's on the 220's, and then the ones they don't, such as there is no separate number for the 'variety' of the candle on both ones, I found on a Scott 219, last night. The imperforate edges, the creases or folds, etc are all starting to stand out, a bit, now that I have the classic section in a final major sembelance of order. This is yet another aspect, I will be researching, and looking forward to understanding, as I look at what I have.

cet_gg... there are several known varieties of 220's
other than the capped 2's... (not listed in Scott, but
listed in other publications), my favorite of which is
the one below, which I acquired about a year ago, and
my favorite 220 in my collection...

disi123, thank you. What publications would you recommend, to be on the lookout for these? I know not to dismiss a stamp out of hand, because 'something looks wrong with it'. Learned that the first days I was lurking, before I signed up for the community. As I mentioned, even a bug on the stamp, most likely wasn't something to be thrown out. I didn't realize the bug could be all the more reason to keep it. I am looking for that particular one, since I filed it most likely based on cancel, but I don't remember which cancel it had on it.

I will look some more at what I have, and add looking for EFO's, to my list. Thank you for sharing that. I think, right now, my favorite 220 is the one with the cap on it, since it is the only one. If I find the bug is on a 220, it will certainly run a close second to the cap. :D

If I see any with oddities, I'll share them with you. I do know some of my '2's don't look right.

The rarest 220 (220b ~ cap on right 2) was discussed in the thread
below, last year, which I believe you will find quite interesting...

I found what looks like a similar paper fold? Rather odd and not sure what caused it. Note the angle of the paper... I drew a box to show. Any answers?
