The paper color is likely the result of toning, color change due to a mix of age and acid damage. It could gradually turn more and more brown if it gets continued exposure to the acidic paper that caused it in the first place. The wash you did and keeping it in modern materials will probably arrest further degradation. |

It is important to remember that "Bluish Paper" is actually gray, not "blue". A terribly bad catalog description, which has never been corrected, and has been misleading collectors and dealers since they were issued! |

None of these look gray to me (especially the bottom one on piece). Can you put up pictures with them laying on yellow paper instead of the orange you are using? |

Having seen a genuine 361 at the Smithsonian, I agree with Bill. Once you see them in person, your view on this issue changes forever. Compared to other stamps the paper looks ash gray and is unmistakable. These do not come close.

Hungary is right. The speckled or mottled appearance of the bluish (grayish) paper is unmistakable adjacent to a conventional example. Try scanning the reverse of the stamps on orange or yellow paper. The one you think is bluish is not likely to look like the speckled-mottled bluish one in the above link.
