I have not been able to identify this one. Hope someone here knows. There is a damaged spot in the middle that was repaired and I think its silk paper.

R144 one dollar third issue. The triangle punch cancel is from the NY custom house, this example was cancelled later in the day when the ink had run out of that portion of the cancel.

It doesn't look like R13b maybe that's why I couldn't find it in my spanking new 2015 specialized. That method of cancel is rather interesting.

This thread reminds me of the line from the movie Cool Hand Luke: "What we have here is a failure to communicate."

???

Where did R13b come from? R13b is the 2-cent Proprietary part perf from the 1st issue, whereas the stamp shown is the $1 3rd issue.

This is what I meant....

It is clearly not the same design. Maybe there is a specialized-specialized catalogue I don't know about?

I believe part of the problem lies in the mis-reading of the catalog number. Gaborkcsr, I do not own a 2015 specialized catalog; mine was printed ages ago. But in the 'Special Notes' section in the front of the catalog it explains that the first number (R144) is the catalog number. That is the number used to identify the stamp. The second number (R13b) is number that identifies the design in the Scott catalog. It should not be used to identify the individual stamps because that is very confusing!

What adds to that confusion is that every denomination of the 2nd and 3rd issue have different designs, and only a few of them are actually shown in the catalog. I've personally ignored the design numbers in Scott, as they are virtually meaningless when communicating with others, hence my confusion at the R13b reference... especially as R13b *IS* a valid Scott catalog number.
