Hello, I found a bunch of stamps in a book inside a wax paper. All of them are red and green, 1 and 2 cent Washington and Franklin. I know a little about stamps, so I used the perforation gauge to measure them, (I learned how to use it online). It was with the stamps and is made of paper reading 2cm. This stamp has "Ask you buy" stamped on the face?? Can't seem to find anything with that type of precancel. The measurement appears to be 11, but it looks the color of a 632 so I'm confused.

The cancel on your stamp is a slogan cancel appplied by a machine, shown here on a Scott 632, rather than a precancel. The slogan was first used in 1935, so your stamp is undoubtedly a 632. Remeasure the sides and they should come to 10.5

Only 14 examples of 596 are known. One just sold in a Harmer-Schau auction for $67,500 (it had a precancel, perfs cutting the design at bottom and toching at right and "tiny crease at upper right, two tiny margin tears and added perf tip at lower left".

If I had a dollar for every person who believed they had a 596, I would be rich! (And that is not meant to criticize the OP). It is human nature to try to convince yourself that you have the BEST item listed in the catalog, not the cheapest. But it's very unrealistic. But the OP came to the right place to find out quickly and painlessly. Welcome typhon!

Thanks Bill Weiss. And yeah, when you want to find a treasure it makes you see what you want and not nessessarly what's there. After trying my hand at few of these, I see you're defiantly right about that. It's hard to stay unbiased.
