Design R14, Scott #R152. Used value as of the 2006 Scott Specialized Catalogu is $32.50 in very fine condition.
Check to make sure that it has watermarked paper with the watermark looking the the typical double line watermark that reads USIR instead of USPS.
The Scott catalog values for unused specimens is identical at $0.25 for unused examples on both silk paper and USIR watermarked paper. It only gives used values for the USIR watermarked paper.
To me, the cancel on your stamp appears genuine and has aged appropriately. |

HDNAC has misread the catalog. All the pricing for the varieties of 152 is for "used" with the various papers in different columns.
You have a R152a, catalog value 0.45 in 2011. It is on silk paper, no need to check watermark. |

Good question. I'm not an expert of identifying revenue stamps by any means. Regardless of paper appearance, does it have a USIR watermark.
Edit: Those much more informed than I have responded. I defer to them and thank them for providing accurate information.

There is a rouletted version of this stamp, that is the one that cats $32.50. These stamps were issued by ABNCO (silk and probably some watermarked), NBNCO (silk and probably some watermarked), and the BEP (watermarked only). There were approx. 880,000,000 issued of all the types. |

Yup, I did misread the catalogue. I see the distinction now. Thanks. |

This stamp is a very nice and inexpensive way to have an example of silk paper, used by the millions on checks. |

I have a few of these and always thought they was a very handsome stamp. Congrats.
I know that there isn't but the back of this stamp has an illusion of a grill remnant dont it? Look in the LL quadrant once and you'll see what I mean. |

I have the rouletted version: And one I've never been sure of: Any information or opinions on the second one would be appreciated. |

These are known imperforate, and this one might well be genuine but there is no absolutely positive way to prove it. |

Thanks, rev. I know that Scott lists an imperforate version, but only as a pair. So I guess this single will remain an interesting but uncertain piece of my 19th century revenue collection. |

R152 can frequently be found with freakishly large margins, so as Bart says, an imperf single cannot stand on its own regardless of appearance. |
