Hi guys..please let me know what you think..Sorry, both I know are in bad shape, but the genuine stamp on the left looks different from the (maybe fake) stamp on the right..Could it be a forgery/fake stamp..??

The last "A" in the word "America" are more pointed on the right stamp.

The left one on the so called right fake stamp is thinner.

The number "2" on the top in "1902" is shaped differently from each other.

The extra lines on the neck shading of the so called fake stamp is different.

etc..etc.

Robert

I doubt it's fake but all you have to do is watermark it.

Wert, I'll be interested to hear if this issue was forged. If your stamp is a forgery, it is masterfully done. I'm wondering if it's just more ink causing the anomalies seen.

Not cycling here, Stampcrow, but re-cycling maybe

But Robert, you do recognize that contemporary counterfeits are regarded differently in the hobby than "fakes," a term which usually applies to items intended to defraud collectors. Right?!

yes, very much so essayk..I do enjoy collecting forgeries/fakes from Canada, Newfoundland, etc...I find it fascinating that some forgeries are some times worth much more that the originals...I think possibly in the USA also..Correct..?

Postal counterfeits have real value, fakes to fool collectors usually do not.

revcollector - "Postal counterfeits have real value, fakes to fool collectors usually do not."

Don't Postal counterfeits only have value to collectors - and are made to fool the collector - so, where is the line that divides the two? Since there are good fakes and bad counterfeits, are they just one in the same and the only difference is to whom they are being sold?

wert - Could that be a line from a dropped tool or something running above the top of the neckline? Also, the numbers look right on both except for the 2. Could a crack in the plate or something cause that? It almost looks like a 'track' can be traced vrom the 'ink spot' up to and through the 2. However, you have it in front of you and I may not have the best of monitors.
