A deal was closed this week for the purchase of the Glen Elder State Bank by M. W. [sic] Ilardman. Lew Meibergen, D. R. and D. H. Harrison, who are the principal stockholders. A small amount of the stock being held by Jewell City and Glen Elder parties. The Glen Elder State Bank was established about 31 years ago by Thomas and D. M. Lyle, brothers, and they have conducted its affairs until yesterday, when the transfer was made to the new owners. The bank is capitalized at $25,000 and has a surplus and undivided profit of $20,000. The deposits run well above the $200,000 mark. Jack Kroamer, of Jewell City, has been elected cashier, otherwise all of the old help of the institution will be retained. The Glen Elder bank is not affiliated in any way with the State Banks of Kansas, or any other bank.

Thomas Lyle was born in Spring Dale, Wis. on April 23, 1852, the son of John (1800-1873) and Catherine Montgomery-Lyle (1815-1874). The Lyle family emigrated from Scotland to Dane County, Wis. in 1850 where they purchased 280 acres and established a farm. Later Thomas Lyle and his younger brother, Daniel took over the operation of the family farm. After trying some business prospects in Wyo. and Colo. Thomas Lyle moved to Palmer, Kan. where he opened a lumber and hardware business with Daniel Lyle. Thomas Lyle married Ella Nadeau in 1881 before moving to Glen Elder, Kan. to reopen the Glen Elder State Bank in 1883. He died on May 29, 1940.
