Bkc15, 18 And 19 Confusion...

I'm trying to complete my collection of airmail booklets. I recently purchased a pair of booklets purporting to be BKC18 and BKC19. They are the bottom two of the three shown in the following image:



I have the top booklet labeled in my collection as BKC15. I've had it for some time, and never thought to question its identification before now.

All three booklets have panes with Slogan 3. The panes in the bottom booklet are clearly tagged. Hence I don't think there is any doubt about identifying it as BKC19. But I am not seeing any tagging on the middle booklet, and it should be tagged. But if it is not BKC18, what is it?

Contributing to my confusion is a confusing presentation of these booklets in Scott:



Since these booklets are all $2 with Slogan 3, that limits them to BKC14, BKC15, BKC18, and BKC19. Now I've never imagined that I have a BKC14. But I'm confused by what is meant by the italicized "pink" in the Scott descriptions. When I bought the "BKC18" it was described as "RARE BKC18 PINKISH Booklet & a BKC19 for comparision MNH PO FRESH in EVERY WAY." Now I tend to be put off by caps and especially "rare" in all caps, but the middle booklet is clearly distinguishable as "pinkish," especially from the insides of the covers, and comparing back covers.

So is that what is meant by "pink" in Scott. Well, if so, my "BKC15" is NOT "pinkish," but is "white," like the BKC19. But if that's what "pink" means, then wouldn't the top booklet be BKC14? I am almost certain that it is not, and that I am confused. Or maybe Scott is wrong?

I hope I've made some sense of my confusion. It boils down to having what is supposed to be a BKC18 with no tagging, and a BKC15 that is not "pink".

So why does Scott say BKC15 is "pink?" I cannot tell any difference between the covers on BKC15 and BKC19, whether in my collection, or at Bardo's. So why, according to Scott, is one "pink" and the other is not?

The pink can be seen most easly around Mr ZIP on the middle booklet. Since you say it is slogan 3 and untagged, that would make it BKC15.

The top one is not with pink background. If it really is untagged and slogan 3, then it could be BKC14, but it would need to be certified as these booklets can be faked by putting panes from one boolet into covers from another booklet.

What you say makes sense, from Scott's. But it doesn't make sense of what I see in practice. You say that if the middle booklet is not tagged, it is BKC15, because it is "pink." But what about these?

Bardo's doesn't show the back. Given the vagaries of color presentation on computer monitors, it is hard to decide whether the different shades in the above two are real or not. But neither of them seem to be "pink," most clearly not the second one (when in doubt, look at the back, or even better if you have them in hand, look at the interior of the covers to confirm the "pink").

If these are BKC15's, why are they white? Color me confused.

The bottom is the "BKC18" I recently purchased. Now, there is no mistaking the "pink" of the bottom booklet. But I think the top booklet is "white," not "pink." It would be even better if we could see the insides of the covers.

Still, we've got Bardo, for sure, and Lang, so it seems, selling "white" booklets as BKC15, when Scott says they should be pink. At this point, I don't trust Scott. But I'm not sure that it is worth it to get a "BKC15" booklet expertised on the off chance that it is a "BKC14." Not unless I can find a bonafide BKC15 that is "pink."

You can't truust images on the internet for color.

True, although differences in side by side items (as in my first image) in a single image can be "trusted" to some extent.

I contacted Bardo about his image of the BKC15 and he more or less said "it must be the scan" and assured me that his booklet is "pink." So I've purchased one from him (he kindly offered to take it back, and refund the money if I'm not satisfied). When I get it, I'll compare it to the other $2 Slogan 3 booklets I have. He did say that so far as he knows, there are not different "shades" of pink in these booklets. They are either white or pink (color of the card stock they are printed on). I am having to pay CV for this booklet, but if it answers these questions that are nagging me, it will be worth it.

I'll post a followup when I get the new booklet.
