Your a chump Kevin. Always have some sarcastic comment. I think it is BROWN. Thanks for the considerate response. I would surely hate to have your personality.

Maverickx and stampmaster. I agree with both of you. The photo matches Kevin's personality faded, torn, and worn. He is repeatedly abusive in his remarks. Must have something to do with the way he was brought up.

One problem with determining the shade is that the image appears to have a significant yellow color cast to it. I doubt the paper is really that yellow, which makes the determination of shade more difficult.

I agree that it's very unlikely to be the deep brown shade.

maverick.....what point are you trying to make with this stamp?
That it is a DEEP BROWN???

There are only 2 shades....BROWN and DARK BROWN.

There is no way this is DARK BROWN....
You answered your own question....

I think it is BROWN

BINGO!

Also....name calling is not needed here.
You can believe what you want....but you
should not post it.
Also....I am only a chump.... faded, worn and torn
because you are on the other side of the computer.

Now I am totally confused. I assumed this was a perf 11 stamp (#518 or #518a). In my 2015 Scott US Specialized, only violet brown, violet black, and deep brown are mentioned. I don't see "brown" or "dark brown" listed.

Looking at the other perf possibilities (#423, #460, #478), the possible colors listed are violet brown and violet black. Again, no "brown" or "dark brown" mentioned.

Am I looking at the wrong stamp, or did I misread something?

I'm terrible with colors, but here's my ½¢ worth. Assuming it is perf 11, given the damage and toning, my guess is that it was originally a violet brown stamp. On a stamp in this condition, the bottom solid color corners will be closer to the original color than the other parts of the design. The problem is, how far off it is from the original color shade? Given the condition, violet brown is really just a guess. At least you can use it to fill a spot in the album.

But I certainly agree that it is not deep brown (at least it doesn't look that way on my screen).

Yeah, you definitely want to avoid using the flash. Best in natural sunlight or using a light that mimics natural sunlight.

Then again, most of us don't have color calibrated monitors, so IDing some color shades by a picture on our screen can get very tough.

Violet brown, violet black, brown.....etc....
color varieties.....not a "special listing"
It is not a DEEP BROWN, DARK BROWN....
it is not the "a" color listing.

Sorry to confuse anyone.
