Trading..exchanging something you do not need or have an abundance of for something you can use ! I am having a lot of fun trading with fellow collectors on the Stampcommunity forum...i try not to take advantage but if someone else comes out better on the trade thats a good thing with me..some say stamp collecting is a solitary thing..i can not understand that too well...if a person takes the pains and it does take discipline to build a fine collection..why keep it to themselves in a closet?..theres nothing wrong with displaying your work proudly....

Phil...Here is my point of view on trading. As you know, I do a lot of bulk trading, as an example, 1000 stamps for 1000 stamps.

The way that I look at it, 1000 duplicates, are worth nothing to me, and they are just sitting in a shoebox doing nothing.

If I trade these, for another 1000 stamps, and out of that thousand, I need 50-100 stamps, heck that's great, and well worth the trade.

Getting 50-100 out of a thousand is a pretty good ratio , not to long ago I went to the bank and asked for $10.00 in pennies (to sort thru for fun), found 2 wheat cents and about 4 Canadian pennies , for the effort I find more wheat cents in a cash register drawer .

Phil & Bob have both been very generous to me and my collecting addiction. I can honestly say that I have definetely came out ahead on any deal, because I know I'm getting something I would want. Thank you both for being wonderful collectors that I hope to aspire to be more like in the future. There are many more on this forum that I've failed to mention, please do not take that as a slight in any way. I appreciate this group more and more everyday.

I can still strike a few keys Phil and sort a few stamps. By the way I drug myself out of bed and drove to the post office to mail your payment. And may I add without the detour through Buchanan this time

The only knowledge I have of anyone here is what I have read here. Dianne, sorry you aren't feeling well and hope you recover soon. Stamps will surely provide an escape.

All the posters here sound like interesting folks and we all certainly share a common interest.

Here's a big hello to all.

Thanks guys.

Your're absolutely right swabbie but I couldn't even get around to much of that yesterday. Looks like I'm going to stay home again today so maybee I'll get a little more accomplished.

In my opinion a lot of trading has fallen by the wayside. I really enjoy it though. Yes you can get the quick satisfaction to purchase a stamp, and then it is done. But sometimes with a trade it does take some leg work on one's part to accomplish.
For example, first you have to find the stamp from someone that you have and then try to find something that the other person would need or enjoy. When doing one on one trades like this it does take effort but the rewards can be great. There are also the bulk trades of 50, 100 or more at a time. These type of trades you have to treat like a treasure hunt , never knowing what to expect.
Finally, when you start to get a good trading partner you also end up with a great friend as a bonus.

THanks guys for the "caveats" in training...AT least I could proceed with caution when I engage in trading in the future
