I use mine to store stamps until I get around to mounting them in my album. My stock book is like a temporary album. Some collectors use them to house their trading stock in. |

Over here in Europe, using stockbooks is the norm, both for your collection as for trading stock. I think using hinges became out of fashion 40 or 50 years ago... They are only used in the cheaper country albums (more expensive ones are of the hingeless type where you put the stamps in clear plastic mounts with or without black backing) and for approval books.
For me, I would not be collecting stamps if there had not been stockbooks, I find it far too unpractical to meddle with hinges...

Stock books are still used by stamp venders to hold their stock for easy in easy out when selling or viewing by the buyer. You'll see them if you ever go to a stamp show/convention. |

Tina, I just found out recently about stockbooks too. I am looking for some to put my stamps that aren't going into any of my albums or that I have extras of.
I use hinges in my US album. I didn't know that peope didn't use them anymore! I'm really a newbie, aren't I? |

G'Day Tina I use 10 stock books for various thing I collect, one I use for all the duplicate of my main stamp book collection and another for my triplicates of the same stamp and or the many multiples,so don't disregard those stamps that are in the stock books as they could be a little gold mine . Tina I'm head down an A up on a Airport project at the moment (should have been in bed 2 hours ago ),I will email you on the weekend to reply to yours regards Harry |

On hinges I'll agree with you philb, if they been hinged you can't devaluate the stamp anymore and you save $ in the mean time. |

Hi Tina I find that stock books are great for storing quantities of stamps but not so good if you want to include some description or interesting information or background about your stamps in a presentation type page. That's where albums come into their own I find. You can also use Davo type protectors to hold your stamps and hinge those to the page if you don't want to hinge the stamp. (Davo might be just one of a number of brand names for these stamp protectors) I am sure members of the group can suggest many more. Regards John |
