Anyone have an idea what this plate number is? Partial plate number on a #409H paste-up strip of four. Last two digits appear to be a 1 and a 2 or 3. None of the listed plate numbers in Durland for #409H end in 12 or 13. Only plate number, again in Durland, for #409 that end in either 12 or 13 are 5912, 6513, 7313, and 7612. Could be 6813, 6912 or 6913 since the 68xx and 69xx series were used for #409 but none of those plate numbers are listed, known plate numbers for #409. Can't be 6012, 6013, 6612, 6613, or 6812 since those plates were used for #408. I don't wish to separate the past-up if I can help it, and I don't think that would help much. Any thoughts on what the number is?

It's a nicely cut strip... not necessarily a 409H, albeit the fact
there's a paste-up involved would sure lean toward it being an H...

First question would be if you tested for watermark to rule out 482,
as 482 could open up many plate possibilities in the 8000 series...

Additionally, the plate number appears to be setoff on the gum as
opposed to bleed-through from the face of the paste-up... please
clarify...

Randall

Maybe 6515, a known number on 409H. Putting it in watermark fluid will often show the number behind a paste-up - did you try that to get a better look?

P.S. If I'm interpreting your photo correctly, you're showing the bottoms of numbers (reversed), looking "through" the paste up gum side. If so, then "2" doesn't seem to be a possibility to me (for any of the digits.)

Sorry for the crazy font, but to give you an idea of what I'm seeing, take a look at this:

Sorry to answer so late. Today is my B-Day and have been away from home with friends.

Randall, it has been dipped. It is single-line watermarked so it can not be a #482. Being a paste-up strip and measuring 25.0mm north to south, it is most likely a #409H strip.

Ken, The plate number appears to be cut in the middle of the number; 6515 looks good to me. Thanks!
