I noticed a small time seller on ebay who seems to have a inexhaustible supply of Kansan Nebraska issues. Give the ease of manufacturing them, I wonder if that is what is going on. What do you guys think?

User name is luv2dbl . I am not experienced enough to tell if they are genuine or not.

well its not good to put sellers names, I have bought from him and not had a problem but I cant tell you for sure about stamp without seeing it but if you are trying to get them they are not rare. With that said there have been alot of fakes made over the years. There are books on what the overprint should look like.

Since the 1986 tax law revisions, Kans-Neb's haven't been worth much,
so the incentive to fake them has diminished significantly...

There's still plenty of fakes floating around "from the old days", though...

disi123,

How did the 1986 tax change affect the manufacturing of fake stamps?

Jack... from the late 1970's up until 1986 the prices of stamps
skyrocketed to levels not even seen today... sparked by stamps
being (formerly) classified as a portfolio investment, which was
eliminated in the tax revision, and, hence, the stamp market had
collapsed...

I'm really not certain what year anyone could say it began making
a strong comeback, but most certainly after 1995, where ebay became
the major focal point for many buyers and sellers...

I recall, though, between 1987 and 1992-1994, where you could walk
into a stamp shop and just about name your own price on just about
anything which caught your eye...

Hello all! Just wanted to thank you all for all the great info I've gotten in the short time I have been reading this post. Going back on topic - My father and grandfather, both stamp collectors, and Kansans, left me a lot of Kansas overprints when thy passed. Most are used but not all. My point is that it was easy to accumulate a lot of them if you lived in Kansas (or I suppose Nebraska) as they were readily available on letters received or at the post office. I know they are not worth much but being from my Dad and Grandpa they mean a lot to me.

Dave

Regardless of value, once you have them all, they make a gorgeous set.

IBFS.

Absolutely a beautiful set, although I wish I had purchased mine in 1991 like disi123 says!

I found a set of Nebraska and Kansas overprints that I am considering purchasing off ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/302020445463

Thought I would ask the experts here if they look authentic from the photos? From the research I have done, they look good to me, although I am by no means an expert...

Thanks!

The 10 cent Kans. has s pulled perforation at the top. Also, I would recommend measuring the 6 cent Kans. overprint. The APS booklet on the Kansas-Nebraska issue is still available. I believe members receive a discount. A 10x or 15x loupe with a reticule would enable measure to the nearest tenth of a millimeter. Many expertizers use a Peak loupe with a reticule. Somewhat expensive, but well worth it.

Finally, forger overprints are more common on used stamps. Unused stamps with gum must have the wide gum breaker spacing, usually one ridge on each stamp.
