I will be there hunting down all those towns you uncovered for my Route 66 & Lincoln precancel collections. I just have to come up with some cash to purchase them. LOL |

Hi guys! Could you give me some sort of the hint how those events works? Please! I never was at one in America, but I eager to go! What is "the early bird" idiom means? I know the general meaning but how do you apply it to the post stamp event? Thanks |

For this particular group. It means that they will be setting up tables and some dealers will be there. However, they really don't get going until the next day at 9 am. |

Thank you for taking time to explain. I am still confused though. That is the point of coming at 6 p.m. if it is only going to be open at 9 a.m. next day? Are they going to sit there through the night? |

No they won't sit in the conference room over night. If you collect something that is popular, you may get to it before anyone else that won't show up until Thursday or Friday. This will be my first time attending this groups show, I know one of the members and he let me know about it. All my info is second hand. I hope this helps. |

Inga, Do you collect precancels or perfins?
I had missed the show last fall because I found out too late and had to work. |

WOw, wow, don't scared me away with those big words (just kidding) Precancels - it means what stamp never been used but had a mark on it? Or I am missing something here :) |

Precancel is a very specialized area of stamp collecting. In the US more then 10,000 cities were overprinted most often with the name of the city and 2 lines or bars above & below cities name. They were meant to speed up the mailing process on large mailings so they could bypass the normal cancelling. Large mailing companies such as Sears were big users of this system. There is a lot more to it, but that's the basics process. |

I went to the show/club meeting yesterday. I met some really nice collectors & I may even join for only $7.00 annually. I walked away with over 200 precancels for my Route 66 and Lincoln collections. Needless to say it was very interesting to see so many different precancels organized by state & town. |
