I need some help from one of you U.S. Brainiacs.

Is there a complete listing of Prexie Precancels anywhere? Have I missed it in the Scott Specialized?

Scott does not list the individual cities of the pre-cancels, only the total number of Bureau precancels.

Were you just looking for Bureau precancels (then check the Bureau Precancel Catalog, or did you want local precancels as well (then get the Town & Type Catalog)? Both are from the Precancel Stamp Society.

If you just want a list of the Bureau precancel cities for each stamp, I can probably make an Excel spreadsheet checklist for you AFTER next week (after May 15). Email me if you want that. Also tell me how detailed you want it (cities only, or include precancel style varieties for each city as well).

Check the "Catalogue of the Printed Precancels of the United States", by Bruce Brunell, 2006, which includes all government issued electroplates (styles201-84), Locally manufacted plates, typesets, multigraghs & mimeos.
Then the "PSS Catalog of City Type Coils, Precanceled by Coil Machines", 2001, covers styles 101-83.
Of course the "PSS Bureau Precnacel Catalog," 1997, covers styles 38-87.
Followed by the "PSS Printed Dated Type Precancel Catalog," 2001, & the "Handstamp Dated Control Handbook & Checklist,"1985-87 various partsby Lyon, Rolston, & Jon Wilson.
Those will get you most issues but will still be incomplete.

khj - at this point it is merely idle curiosity. IF you have the time at some point, it does sound like several people would be interested in such a list.

I'm developing a severe interest in the Prexies and Precancels would be a natural extension to what I have already.

La swabbie, have you come across the Macon GA precancel on the Martha Washington stamp? It is a rare precancel and yet doesn't cost a fortune. It is rather expensive, but from the info I have found it is not our or sight in price.

Greg,
Are there certain state or towns you are interested in for the precancel? I'll have to glance through my trading pile for any prexies. Also, are you interested in all the prexie issues or certain ones?

All - I don't have any yet. I guess I was trying to see how big the field is for mint issues. I don't want to get myself into another big or expensive interest area. There aren't many on ebay.

Dude - not really. I'm just exploring the issue at this point.
