Oliesminis....

Welcome to the Stamp Community.

Nothing much of value here I'm afraid.
If you want more specifics, let me/us know the watermarks on the Wildings.

Have fun and post often.
And don't forget to introduce yourself on the Welcome thread. [Near the top of the All forums page].

The Wildings are the definitives with tht particular portrait of the queen. Wilding is the last name of the man who took the photograph on which the stamp is based. Oh, and welcome to the forum!

Londonbus, do you collect British? I have a rather specialized collection of some British--The Penny Red, and the Edward VII and George V issues. I have just started the Machins. They are an almost bewildering array of stamps, to say the least. One area I refuse to get caught up in on the Machins is the gum varieties. Denomination, color and phosphor band varieties yes.

Hi Oliesminis,
Welcome to this forum.
I think that one of the first things a starting collector should learn and remember that chances of finding valuable stamps in lots like these are smaller than winning the lottery. Do not start to collect stamps if you want to become rich quickly... it should be a hobby, enjoy it.

By the way, the Wildings are the small stamps with the picture of the British queen. A guy named Wilding made the photo, hence the name.

Just a slight correction to the posts of Rohumpy and Jan Simon......Wilding was a woman, first name Dorothy.

Yes, I am a GB collector but have stopped from 2005 for commems and everything else from the new security feature issue earlier this year.

Oliesminis.....I suggest soaking these off and putting together a nice used GB collection. Don't worry about watermarks just yet...try to collect the basic sets and continue from there.
