I'm still not entirely convinced that the block of four is 500.

That auction was NOT cancelled early by ebay. It went the full distance, and ended with a winning bidder. I don't care what the seller says. He'd get a big fat negative feedback from me.

Slimy move by the seller and there's no way I would bid on his items. He thinks it's ok just to back out if he doesn't get enough? If he did it once, he'll do it again.

Hi essayk
Thank you for your post. Wow! I have sat back not wanting to post and stir up what appears to be anger. I have read some posts slandering me while others statements are completely untrue. What a great first day in the classroom it has been for me. When I came to your site it was truly for a second opinion. I had already completed the cancellation of the ebay transaction. It was done with their help & blessing. After my first post is when my sweety Patty saw another post "why it's great to be a seller on ebay". Since my block was the star of the show, we posted on it as it well. To read that I am posting under a different ID is absurd. The gentleman who informed me of the listing error truly lives in Montana. I'm not sure who is trying to fabricate a strange tale. I tell the truth and speak the truth so help me God.
To essayk; thank you for sharing your faith. I too am a practicing Christian - I thank God before every meal and believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ. If some of you do not believe me, that's your problem, not mine. I know that I can sleep at night. To those who insist that I should send the block to the winner of the auction. Sorry. I will relist this block some day. I do feel crushed with many of these accusations. I invite you all to check out my feedback prior to this. I try to go above and beyond what is expected. I could accept the negative feedback with no worries. But to be called dishonest and now updated to incompetent. That is not true. I have been a real estate broker for 38 years. Never in a courtroom. I am proud of that fact. In regards to posting under an other ID, that is bizarre. The gentleman who helped me truly lives in Montana. He has messaged me thinking that he has been blocked from your site. My wish is for peace. I would love to befriend your site. It seems heated but
admirable.
May the Peace Of God be with you all!
Bob

WOW, I can't believe this.

Now you're bringing religion into this?

You gotta to be kidding.

Is there a religion on earth that espouses backing out of an agreement for the sake of greed?

sherm, I understand your point of view, but my own analysis places the matter within a larger context. One can talk all one wants about rules and agreements, but the two parties entered first into an agreement with ebay. By participating in an ebay auction one agrees to its procedures. As far as I can tell, the OP was guided by what was allowed. The prospective buyer, it seems to me, must abide by the overriding agreements and procedures established by ebay.

If one wants to make a campaign of this issue, it seems the logical step would be to stop using ebay.

Only to speak to what was said 30 or so posts ago. The stamp had 499d written on the back of it. It was clearly a listing error. To the Gentleman who welcomed me to this forum who said," Stay, you will learn a lot." Thank You!! And to all a good night!!
Respectfully,
Bob

499d in my 1944 catalog, IS listed as a type Ia. Soooo the writing on the back may be correct, just not applicable to modern #'s.

There are other examples of this. Beware of writing on the back.

My what a bunch of hypocrital old collectors we turn out to be!

Back in March, this forum - indeed all of philately - was heaping praise on the astute collector who bought the uber-rare 5A-5A-5 strip of three in an ebay auction! Who then flipped it for $30,000 at a Dutch Country Auction! I did not see any "Boy he really snookered that stupid seller" going on then. It was all congrats, and "wish I had caught that" and general "great find"-style comments.

Now we have a VERY SIMILAR event, but because the seller was informed of the possible rarity of their item and cancelled the sale - WITHIN HIS RIGHTS UNDER ebay RULES - somehow, he's the villain? What the... ?????????

Nobody got ripped off here.
Nobody violated ebay rules here or at least near as I can determine.
Nobody should be forced into "honoring the sale" here.
Grow up for goodness sake!

Bob - Welcome to the forum... I guess. Funny that Svengoolie had Frankenstein last night and now I have discovered where the angry village mob disappeared to. Generally, we are a MUCH nicer bunch than how we appear here today.
