Here is page two. After some delay. (Life gets in the way of stamps sometimes) Again these are pretty poor, some are even worse, but I just wondered if I need to get excited with any of them. Thanks in advance. Peter In Jersey
When you're looking at these things, think about the following: - What is their condition? ANY creases, tears, stains, missing perforations (or any flaws to the wavy things at the sides) will GREATLY decrease the value of the stamp. - What is their centering? Can I see an even amount of white space around the stamp? If no, value drops. - How do people collect these things? If they are cutouts from envelopes, they really need to be square, not trimmed to the image. If postcard cutouts, they have virtually no value.
This is all without even thinking about the relative rarity of the stamp itself. The most valuable stamp on the page is probably the 6c Post Office official stamp (row two on the left). However, in that condition, it's worth less than a buck. Can't tell what the stamp under the one next to it.
Hi chipg. Thanks for that. pages three on the way. I was looking through the post "Whats the worst stamp", I guess I'm nudging into top spot with these. ....
Quote: That 6c "Official Stamp" is probably quite collectible due to the use of a fancy cancel on it
You can collect anything you want. However, I wouldn't pay money for it. How much would you pull out of your pocket and trade for any or all of the stamps on that page (excluding the hidden stamp, which woud be gambling, not collecting)?
Note I used the term "collectible" not "valuable". Sure the condition may make the stamp next to worthless from a monetary standpoint, but there are collectors who would overlook the condition only to find that postmark to be desirable.
As a collector of perfins and precancels and covers, oftentimes the markings make the item collectible regardless of the condition of the stamp.
