Man that burns me up. I hate people who have tampered with stamps in any way. To make sure I get nicely centered ones to replace these, I will have to spend up to $40.00 for them both, having already paid my dues.

Thanks though to those who brought this to my attention.

On the positive side, the reperfs are on the low end of the cost to correct. Still nice looking stamps IBFS

It probably won't be any consolation, IBFS, but the perf additions were probably done decades ago when there weren't quite as many scruples about fixing straight edges as there are today. The problem is not a new one. Collectors have always preferred stamps well centered with full perfs all around for perforated issues.

Thanks for showing your beautiful stamps, IBFS! The Pan-American Exposition Issue represents the peak of artistic design in US stamps, in my opinion.

IBFS: Whoever provided the perforations on the 1 & 2 cent stamps seems to have done a pretty good job. The only obvious reason to know that they were perforated after being issued is the presence of the guidelines. This may well have been done to "enhance" the appearance of the stamps rather than to deceive a prospective buyer. Moreover, how do you know whether any of the other values have been "reperforated". Without having the entire set expertized, you probably can't know. And sometimes, when the reperf job has been expertly done, even experts will disagree on whether it has been done. So I say "Put the perforation question out of your mind & enjoy your beautiful stamps!"

IBFS, I wouldn't fret over it. The value of the stamps are times like this when you get to show them off :) I think any collector of US Stamps has this set at the top of the favorites list.

Good and bad guideline remnants:
On the 2c Pan Am - good (the vertical guideline ran down the middle of the pane)
On the $1 TransMiss - bad (the vertical guideline was the line used to trim the panes)

(you can see a bit of the black guideline at the end of a few of the perf tips)

Chipg, that's a gorgeous set!

My set isn't nearly as well centered as your two sets, IBFS and Chipg. But I love scanning these to show the colors and engraving details. Cranking it up to 1200 DPI . . .

Thanks for all your consolations guys, and thanks for looking. Reading your comments did give me a different perspective and picked me up off the floor. Yes, whoever did this did a professional job, and a stupid one. Professional in that it's hard to tell they are reperfed without the guideline. Stupid in that anyone who knows where the guideline is, will know they've been reperfed.

chipg-- That is a really nice set. Aren't they gorgeous? I like the way you have them arranged. You can notice the differences in the designs better by displaying them this way and complements the way I posted them (done so you can see the fine print).

IBFS,

Don't beat yourself up. As JLLebbert, said:

If you collect stamps to enjoy looking at them, then your set is loaded with eye appeal! Enjoy!
