Hello,

Came across this, and thought it was pretty interesting; quite a reminder of how things used to be during a time since past! The post office round stamp on the post card is dated Dec. 4, 1939, postmarked in Warren, PA. More thank likely, I'm sure the Christmas slogan isn't rare or anything, but was wondering if anyone was able to advise how long this was used, and if it was a normal practice for all post offices, or simply a select.

Thanks,

Jay

The DC Machine Slogan Cancels website suggests that for Washington, DC, that "Mail Early for Christmas" slogan was used seasonally from 1920 all the way up to 1990 ... a span of 70 years! Of course, that's for Washington, DC only.

Every city had their own slogan cancel die(s) and not all of them were in use for the same period(s) of time. I'm not sure there is any catalog listing for all of the locations that used that slogan.

Wow! That is so interesting!

Never would have guessed that it was "allowed" to have been used all the way up to 1990!

Love all the history and details I am finding out by stamp collecting!

Many thanks again!

Some find it entertaining to seek out any number of varieties of slogan cancels on the same theme. This is out of the same reference:

And here's the link to the reference if you're specifically interested in those postmarks/slogan cancels from Washington, DC only:
