Good morning everyone. I came across this copy from a dealer lot at auction. Scott does not list used copies of this issue. I compared it with my perf 12x12 copy and it measures identical. The entire height of the stamps is the same as the outside perf tips of the 12x12 stamp. It measures 25.1 mm on both stamps. The margins (frame to straight edge) on the alleged coil are identical width on each side. The top is 1.49 mm each side and the bottom is 1.80 mm. The bottom edge is cleanly cut but the top edge is slightly ragged, although straight. I suspect this may have been a "jumbo" straight edge that was cut down. Who ever did it did a good job getting the edges straight. Is there any possible this is a genuine copy of the perf 12 vertical coil? Thanks! And any comments are welcome. Wolf-==-

No, it's not likely.

If you want an opinion on this stamp, you'll have to provide a high quality scan.

Here's my 318 v perf for example:

It's also a fake. There will always be those who are motivated to alter stamps and deceive for profit.

Good luck hunting.

A few explanations would be useful here, I think.

Martin Armstrong's book states that 322 can only be type-II, and in a Deep Scarlet or Lake shade. Scott does state that 322 is a type-II, but gives the shade as Carmine. I believe, from your scan, that your example is a Type-I, so its doubtful it could be a 322.
