I've been trying to plate this type V and thought it would be a tad easier with the imprint. Position is 61L but the plate I'm having issues determining.

I can rule out plate 5 because this is not a type VA
I think I can rule out plate 7 because I can see the "i" in Cincinnati ?

So this leaves plates 8,9, and 10. All of which Neinken states no plating marks for this position on any of these plates. Where to now ?

Don't forget, much of the left pane of Plate 5 are Type V's.

The vertical alignment and distance of the imprint from the design will always be your key to plating imprint copies. Plate 8 is your likely candidate. You may be able to consult a recent Chronicle article on imprints and if you are without a copy of Part 4 of the Wagshal Sales, you should get one. Part 2, the imperforates, is a valuable reference as well.

Thank you Mr. Sinclair, as always I value your response and the sharing of your knowledge. I'm beginning to realize that my knowledge of available reference material is less than my knowledge of stamps.

Plate 5 is still a possibility, because 61L5 is Type V not Va and the vertical position of the imprint with reference to the design is the same as Plate 8. Check out the illustrations at the Doporto archive for possible plating marks not illustrated in Ashbrook/Neinken.

61L8. There is definitely a match on DoPorto's site for the plate mark in ornament F....

I agree with Ray but not because I checked any plating marks but because the vertical alignment of the imprint says that it is Plate 8 and can be no other. The Plate 5 imprint is somewhere around 0.25mm higher or nearly a country mile to a stamp plater.
