Which auction houses are viewed as the better sources to the buying market???

It depends on what you are selling - both what the items are and the condition they are in. Without know if your material is top notch or just typical, it is impossible to say which houses would be your best bet.

your best return would be to sell it on ebay with buy it nows and take time to research what you have actually sells for

Jim, I'm leaning toward your suggested route. A member of our Forum has shown interest in some of my better items, so it might make sense for me to start there and self-liquidate in lots.

eyeonwall...my collection is a mixed bag and covers the spectrum quality wise...some are very fine centered with no flaws...most are used average quality but sound, but a decent % are mint hinged with a few MNH. I know some collectors focus strictly on MNH, so again I may be best investing the time and selling lots and singles.

I have tried to fairly evaluate my quality compared to 2014 Scott CV.

historicalDNA, thanks for the link, I'll check it out!

As an update to our discussion...

I want to thank everyone for sharing your thoughts and experiences regarding collection sales.

Fortunately I found a US stamp dealer at the World Stamp Show who made a fair offer for my entire US Classics album.
In the end I accepted a lower buy out price. The offer fell short of my potential sales had I decided to break up the collection,
but I decided against giving myself a full time job spending months marketing singles and small lots.

Most important lesson I learned is that stamp quality makes -- or breaks -- resale value.
I understood that I had collected a "mixed" collection with a high percentage of lesser quality stamps which were more
affordable to me but greatly reduced dealer value due to thins or poor centering. Still, I'm happy to move my focus to
organizing my US Revenues and British Commonwealth.

Once again, thanks for your show of interest. Happy collecting!

Cheers,
Dan
