Yes & No, Yes I've have a book, but it's not dedicated K/N.
It's listed in the "Catalogue of the Printed Precancels of the United States"
by Bruce Brunell, 2006, Edition #2.

That list I put together was 27 but the Gunesch Handbook stated 50.
I'll see what I may find checking this out.

I review Gunesch and found it meant 10 cities & 57 varieties. So Nebraska has expanded since the 1938 publication.

My buddy at the OPS (Ottawa Philatelic Society) has the United States pre-cancel handbook. I think I'll copy the pages for the Kans.-Nebr. overprints, as I find the pre-cancels of this issue most interesting.

It's amazing what piques one's interest just leafing through a United States collection, eh?

My APS Handbook by Schoen, DeVoss & Harvey does not show or mention any precancels on this series........but that does not necessarily mean there weren't any.

NR-NOTRARE:

I picked-up the same book at Ian Kimmerly Stamps this morning... facinating! I find the Kansas-Nebraska overprints very interesting. The handbook says 60% of the stamps out there are FAKES! Wow!

About 4 months ago there was a MNH Hastings Nebr precancel on the Nebr. 4c stamp. It started at around $450.00. It appeared perfect in every respect. No one bid on it. Only a week later there was another MNH Hastings 4c precancel Nebr. at around $15.00. No one bid on it either but it was Poor to Average centering at best with an off-centered precancel. I have to wonder why neither moved.

David and NOTRARE
I also have the same handbook printed by the APS by Schoen, DeVoss & Harvey. It has been invaluable when working with or purchasing any Kan - Neb overprints. There are so many fakes and forgeries out there, that I recommend at least some sort of reference for anyone wishing to collect these stamps. I have found several forgeries and write fake on the back and then let the kids have them for space fillers!.. I suppose a collection of the many different forgeries would be very interesting in itself

I believe they are all local precancels, but I defer to Mike and the others for correction.

All Kansas & Nebraska overprints with a precancel are of local origin, authorized by the US Postmaster General and a device was supplied by the US Postmaster General
The Bureau's were printed at the same location & manner as the K/N overprints.
No bureau's have have K/N overprints.
