Looking more closely the bottom design looks too complete to be a 5A so I guess it isn't even a good attempt. Yet 19 bids |

If it really is this good, why is it on ebay in the first place? Why not go through an established auction house? Peter |

Can't be a type 1b. They come from plate 1 early state. The secret mark in the left oval is only found on plates 11, 12 , and proofs. My guess is that it's a proof. |

But could a proof show both the secret mark AND the fuller design of the earlier issues? The #40 does show the secret mark, and the rest of the design matches as well. Plus it has enough margins to allow it to be trimmed. |

agree scott 40... plume at bottom right too complete anyway to be 5a... No question likely scott 40ish
is it a proof 40p or actually scott 40 (reprint)???? (per scott, 40 can exist imperforate?) scott 40 is no joke of a stamp either especially with good centering |

AKA British Cartel... It is fairly easy to spot the listing layout and fact that the listing says it ships from US location but seller is located in Great Britain. But if there is any doubt, look at the listing image links and you can see they are coming from 'ten shillings.co' one of the other known Cartel names. Don |
