Announcing the formation and first Midwest gathering of the USPCS Bank Note Issues Study Group at CHICAGOPEX November 19, 2-4 p.m. in the Leighton room of the show hotel (Westin Chicago Northwest 400 Park Blvd Itasca, IL 60143). Check the Chicagopex website for details and a map:
http://www.chicagopex.org/chicagopexcurrent.htmlInspired by the Bank Note conclave at World Stamp Show NY2016 we have scheduled a room for a two hour gathering of philatelists at Chicagopex 2016 who want to discuss the joys and sorrows of collecting the Bank Note Issues as stamps and postal history. We have arranged for two presentations by specialists from the Collectors Club of Chicago to add fuel to the fire of our passion, but we have also allowed additional time for getting acquainted and looking ahead. We hope that attendees will freely share stories about their personal interests, projects, and acquisitions with the rest of us. Whether you are relatively new to the Bank Notes or have studied them for a long time, rest assured we have something for you.
Our speakers for this first of what we hope will become regular meetings at stamp shows in the Midwest are geared for two levels of expertise, one for advanced students and one for those just getting into it.
2:15 - John Barwis - Investigating Stamp Papers: Bank-Note Company Issues of 1870-1881
3:00 - John Rdzak - Boston negative fancy cancels
Fledgling though it may be, our group has also been promised meeting space at Compex 2017 and an allocation of frames for non-competetive exhibiting of whatever parts of their collections participants may wish to show. Plans are already in motion for setting a theme for this gathering, and another speaker schedule. More on this when details are more firmly set, but keep your eye on Compex next May.
