I know we're all human, but I've never seen anything like this.....APEX misidentifies a Scott #71 as a #38. (or perhaps I missed something?)

The information from the APS web site doesn't match the printed cert:

(Certificate Number: 216876)
Catalog Name: Scott
Catalog Number: 38
Condition: Used
Opinion Date: 7/14/2016
Final Opinion: United States, Scott No. 71, used, genuine, UR corner crease, margin tears at top.

I would call this a typo on the cert perhaps caused by faulty software. Why didn't the seller notice?

Look in the Question & Answer the seller is now guessing it's a 71, so why he don't correct it.

At least the seller actually shows the questions and admits to the 71. Once again the claim "I'm not an expert" is tossed in on a questionable listing, seems to be the catch phrase for buyer beware.

All expertizing services make mistakes, but I have said before on this forum that in my long experience APEX seems to have more than its share of true howlers, whatever the reason.

Some sellers, perhaps like this one with only 14 transactions, do not know how to edit and update a listing. Instead they rely upon the automated 'Ask/Answer a question' to update the listing. I think that it is better than not doing any updates.

I don't think you can edit the title after the item has a bid. He would need to end and relist.

If you zoom in on the image of the APEX Cert, you can see that the security printing is missing around the area of the stamp image. Looks to me like somebody did a little photoshop copy, crop & paste job on that image.

I don't see the security missing under 300 x mag, but I do note under a negative of the stamp that the security seal on the right seems miss a lined with the right side.

I'm talking about the crosshatching that is supposed to cover the entire Certificate. You can see it on the bottom half below around the signatures, but not around the stamp image and the security seal.

It's a pretty obvious forgery.

BreefmackUSA, I just looked at an APS Certificate that I have, and the cross-hatching doesn't cover the entire certificate. It's only over the signature area, just like in your image, and at the top. I have no opinion on the stamp itself.

Seller received an apology from APEX and a new certificate but still has not delisted the auction.

edit: The auction continues but now you will receive both certs.
