I think you will be disappointed because I believe it is a fake grill on a soft paper stamp.

Yup.

Counterfeit grill, perfs trimmed off on right side.

As Sinclair said the stamp appears to be on soft paper so it can't have a legit grill. Also, the grills on Large Banknotes usually have a very faint impression, nothing like the grill on this stamp. Furthermore high value grilled Large Banknotes range from scarce to downright rare and, unfortunately, fakes are not uncommon.

Another fake grill on a stamp (Scott 206) that shouldn't have one.

Huffy,
Last month I mentioned the frequency of faked stamps that you seem to be running into; since then you have posted several more. Did all of these stamps from the same source? Is someone selling you these faked stamps as legitimate?

Hi,no I find them in the 49-$1.99 cent range on websites. If they end up fake when I get something real looked at I give them the APS for their records,I'd never pay any real money without a cert, you guys taught me that years ago.

The stamp I put up was a buck listed as a "1 cent stamp",I check the back saw a grill and bought it.I can afford to loose a buck plus a buck for shipping, maybe one day I'll get a more real one's like the double grill I posted,it was $1.29.

Huffy, you should collect these fakes. I find them quite interesting and I think it's great to have a collection of them in an album with each fake or forgery described.

There have been many posted pics of album pages of fakes that are beautifully arranged. Recently there was a pic of an Argentina stamp with many forgeries, and some US locals and carriers.

You seem to have a great start on fake US classic grills

I disagree. Buying crude fakes like this serves no beneficial purpose (nor should they be part of any reference collection), and only encourages the faker to create more garbage. $1.29 was $1.29 too much for this.

Instead, buyers like huffy should learn to recognize genuine grills and put sellers of junk like this out of business.

Srail,

I respectfully disagree. Specializing in a specific area such as US grilled issues and having a well organized reference collection of fakes or forgeries to go along with it will only make you a better philatelist.

You guys would know better than me but how can they actually tell a fake grill,I mean on the right stamp with the right grill, this is 2017 and the technology we have now must be out there to really produce a high quality "griller" I guess you would call it.They make coin dies by laser now right down to the 10,000ths of an inch so a stamp "griller" must be possible in some high tech lab somewhere.

I didn't mean to encourage someone to do it,my post was just a question about how they can tell real or fake,it must have been done in the past many times but the authentication guys can tell a fake, they must really know there stuff.

rgstamp, I'll sell you grills like this by the hundreds at $1.29/ea. Tell me how many you'd like me to make -- I'll use a meat tenderizer for some, a wire paint brush for others, etc. I can even put them on all different stamps if you'd like (maybe even some commemoratives from the 1930's and 1940's!) By your standards, you'll immediately have the greatest all-different fake grill collection ever, and I guarantee that each and every one will be every bit as deceptive as the one posted in this thread (/sarc off)
