After having recently counted up my stamp collection (about 6500 stamps from 217 "issuers") I wondered how this compared to other members' collections? I wondered what the largest collection in the Stamp Community was?

I have no idea how many stamps are in my collection and I have no time to sit down and count them. Let's just say that with about 30 albums and stockbooks, most of them filled from first to last page, it must be a lot...

Wow. My 6500 or so only fill 5 albums. That's about 1300 stamps per album and 1300 x 30 = 39000. That IS a lot...

I have about 12 stamp albums, a few stock books, and around 6 cover albums. Plus all the other stuff in a box, loose, or contained some other way. I don't have the time to organize them, much less count them.

Does volume really count that much?...Most stamps in a collection are minimum value ones that can be easily obtained for a few cents each..when buying a collection the dealer gets those free....

Phil,
No I don't think volume really matters. What matters is that the collector enjoys their stamps regardless of value and the size of the collection whether 1 or 1 million.

The only volume that counts is the volume of joy and satisfaction that one gets from his or her collection. And I mean that sincerely - it's not one of my SA remarks.

If size were a measure of the worth of a collection, then Bobgggg's Million Dollar Collection would be the hands-down winner. I have it on good authority that he doesn't keep mistresses stashed in apartments around town - he keeps his numerous stamps there.

Measuring your collection by units of stamps, generally is not done.
However, if you were to collect US & Canada precancels you count the number of
city/PO's, in relation to how many there are done. Or if you collected ASFE
(a stamp from everywhere)the number of issuing entities can be measured too.
If those areas may interest you, the numbers do become important.

This is only an approximation, but I would say about 25,000, from 285 different countries and states.

A pretty accurate number of my collection is about 52,000 unique worldwide stamps/items from 420 countries/areas; all stored in long line of stockbooks.

It's a plenty, but far, far away from the likes of like the "famous" Meng Collection which Scott used as a source for the catalogue images. As far as I know, it had over 250,000 different stamps in more than 400 albums.

I have no Clue

Let's see I have 2 Canadian Albums about 3/4 full Same with US. 2 albums for Poland about half full. I'm going to start hinging Australia today but I'll guess 2 albums more than 3/4 full. A whole bunch of boxes and envelopes sorted by country.

I have no clue how many stamps I have

Dianne

if I ever completed my collection, I think it would be less than 5,000. I only collect stamps from a specific region, so I do have the limits of what they have produced. Right now, I probably only have about 1,500 of the 5,000 or so that I need.
