Carol Owens,
That is a lovely item you found. They are very scarce in that condition.
What stamps are inside, I'd be interested to know ?
It is said that the world's first stamp collector came from Leadenhall Street in London. She advertised in a newspaper for stamps to cover her bedroom walls....and received 16,000 !! An expensive wall methinks !
Maybe this was a packet of hers after she changed her mind and decided to reap some reward...but I doubt it.
There was a publisher and Printer called the Leadenhall press who started out in Leadenhall Street before moving to Southwark. Possibly their doing ? The packet looks about the same time-frame.
Great stuff ! Thanks for showing us.
I promised to show an unusual gift I was given by a friend of mine at the recent Stampex National Stamp show in London.
I was quite overcome by such a generous gesture from a philatelic buddy. I will never forget those moments we spent chatting over coffee at the show as he handed over the envelope.
At some smaller provincial stamp Fairs during the following days, I was offered some quite large sums of money for this item.
Of course I will never sell it. It has long been a wish of mine to own one. So after a very difficult and tiring holiday, at least one wish had come true. And this came from a friend I had met on the internet ! How times change.
Here it is;

I will write the story about this stamp, as far as I know it, on a seperate topic at some later date.
I have much catching up do here as I trawl through the new and old threads. Disaster befell me upon my return home. The computer had collapsed during my time away and I lost everything

. It was not the homecoming I wanted and is akin to a disaster for me.
Nice to be back anyway. I missed you all !
Londonbus1.....More unusual items to come soon !
