As stamp collectors we praise , lament , argue , love , hate , and tolerate certain stamp issues at one point or another. If you could pick 1 subject that has never been used on a stamp before what would it be and why???? I would chose Historic US Highway Route 66. Now I know this is not a big surprise to many of you on the forum. The highway was officially commissioned on November 11, 1926 and was known as The Mother Road in John Steinbecks novel The Grapes of Wraith, The Will Rogers Highway, and America's Main Street. It conjures up veterans returning home after the war, Okies & Arkies escaping the dust bowl, loading up the car and taking a family trip, quirky roadside attractions, motels, neon signs, shiny red convertible Corvettes. It has been the subject of songs, tv shows, movies, books, documentaries, and has a worldwide fanbase that comes to the US just to get their kicks from Chicago IL to Santa Monica CA across 2,448 miles.

A series of commemoratives for the ships lost in combat in the World Wars would be great. |

I was surprised that Canada Post did not issue a stamp for the centenary of the birth of Leslie McFarlane in 2002, nor for the 75th Anniversary of "his" creation, The Hardy Boys, the same year. They really missed the boat on that one. |

All you guys have good ideas, well except for marmite. Just kidding. Londonbus1 Would Austrialia issue that stamp? I don't know much about marmite.
rohumpy, Re: Route 66 definite...No, not that I am aware of. It would have been a good one for the 1920's Celebrate the Century sheet. There have been some classic cars, motorcycles, the american highway association, the great river road or was that just the Mississippi River, the pony express, the Oregon Trail, the Greeting From sheet works well. There has been lobbying for the stamp since the 1990's and it might happen for the 100th anniversary in 2026. |

I would like to see a new definitve with HM the Queen & PRINCE PHILIP! We hardly see him on a stamp anymore.
Many of us who serve, or have served in the Canadian Armed Forces has a special appreciation for the Duke.

Album covers... Wether you love the music, design or performing arts in general, they're always a pleasure for the eye. My only wish would be that IF such stamps were made they would be SUPERSIZED. |

Stamperdude....I think there are enough Flag stamps for me to collect without suggesting any more ! Still, Marmite was a bit lazy wasn't it ! I complained to UK's Royal Mail in 2007 about a lack of stamps for two very special commemorations...The Princess Diana 10th Death Anniversary and the 25th Anniversary of the Falklands War. Instead we got Birds,Harry Potter, Sea Life and Besides the Seaside So I suggest they put that right as soon as possible. It is an affront to the Nation that they were overlooked. Still, David's wish for Canada was given an issue in Britain at least, in the shape of the Queen's 60th Wedding Anniversary. Londonbus1.....A marmite Jar with a Union Flag on top |

I have several ideas for US stamps. Early ships (18th and 19th century) both war and merchant; American Indian tribes (not just famous leaders we already know about). Farm machinery and/or techniques that revolutionized agriculture. Weapons or war machinery that had later civil applications.

Quote: well except for marmite. Just kidding. Londonbus1 Would Austrialia issue that stamp? I think you will find that Marmite is English, in Australia we have Vegemite. Bobgggg, you are thinking along the same lines as me. It would be nice to see some old time Philatelist on stamps. As long as they are not wearing Pyjamas. LOL steve |
