You want overkill? Think of the fairly recent U.S. "Flag on Porch" issue -- the different varieties number somewhere in the 20s as I recall.

Unless you are a Flag collector then the FOP issue is just great !!

68, according to the very good Adminware-website. And that is excluding PNC's.
I think it's fun to collect these. All the varieties are not really intended, so it is not at all like the zillions of stamps coming from Guyana, Grenada, Tanzania etc.

The issue on the Flag stamps is that there are too many manufactures of the stamps, and too many application issues to meet the many types of vending machines, plus!!

Hi folks.....

I agree that the "Flag Over Porch" group (part of the "Flag Over" series) can be a real pain to understand.....but I collect used PNC's......so far I have well over 50 different plate numbers from the FOP's. The number of perf variations is, to say the least abundant, but it's easier to identify the FOP's than it is to identify the Washington/Franklins of the early 1900's.........definitely a migraine producing group for a lot of collectors.

What some consider a illogical mess, others see as a potential gold mine. Some of the FOP's are quite scarce and values can be quite high.

It makes no difference why any particular stamps were issued or whether or not anyone agrees with the reasons for it. The fact is, they are legitimate postal issues and as such they are collectible.......the beauty of the hobby is that we all get to choose what we like and don't like.......and there are no wrong choices.

Also.......I agree that Grenada is the #1 creator of stickers.

For the smaller country selling stamps to the world gets a decent income for them. New Zealand, like many other countries has increased it's production of stamps and stamp paraphernalia seemingly out of all proportion. A friend of mine presented a one frame display of everything available to collect on just one issue of three stamps. Yes there were 16 pages of stuff one could purchase from the post office and the total cost was in the hundreds of dollars.

By the way Jan-Simon not sure about the Australians but New Zealanders aren't penguins - you should visit one day. A colleague of yours, Able Tasman, introduced New Zealand to the European world. I didn't say discovered as the Maori were here hundreds of years earlier.

hi Bruce,
I have been to New Zealand a few years ago, and am aware that you guys are kiwis :)
What I actually meant was that the kiwis in the Ross Dependency are most likely outnumbered by the penguins living there.

Back to the stamps, I know what you mean with all the stamp products from New Zealand Post. I used to get a news brochure from them for a few years and it was silly. Special m/s that you could only get by buying the yearcollection etc.

But I hear that after long exposure to the extreme cold the penguins start to look like sheep, so it's all good.
