As promised this thread is for those of us who live in tropical environments.

No need to panic anymore you too can collect MNH stamps even in 90% humidity

step 1 buy a dehumidifer
step 2 buy eva dry and keep it next your albums in the safe
step 3 buy a digital humdity caliber 3 that requires no calliberation

Buy good quality albums and you will be all set. Happy buying :)

Please see all other best practices must be followed

and I am not responsible if something goes wrong Ia m just sharing my experience so other folks can benefit

Thanks Spock I certainly have the eva dry or similar product in my cupboard and it helps a lot.

Can you tell me how to get rid of musty smells from stamps and covers? I've inherited quite a large collection from my mum and a lot of the albums have that musty smell.

well the musty smell really scares me. in general terms smell comes from decay. Paper and wood are both living organisms. Eva dry has a fragnance pack to go with the dehumidifer but I am reluctant to use it as I dont know the long term effects it can have on paper.

I would change the albums where your collection has kept. Like all things albums also have a shelf life especially if you see any decay on those. I would also air out your collection on non humid days ( look for it in december - january) thats when usually its the most dry.

Last time I got the smell my rare book collection became powder so dont have many rare books now but it could just be a false alarm :)

Or, you could build a 20 x 30 foot climate controlled addition to your house to be used as your office, workshop and collection storage location.

Cost: only $20,000 - to $30,000 US (depending on locations and furnishings of course).
