Before I start bombarding everyone with questions, I wanted to introduce myself. I hope this is an acceptable area to do so. I am brand new to the stamp world. At first, I was only interested out of necessity. I am a police officer and recently lost my full-time position to budget cuts. My husband and I have been packing around stamps for quited a few years that were his father's. Every time we moved (Husband was Army) I thought "I really need to go through those. After losing my full-time status, my husband suggested I sell the stamps on ebay. Simple, I thought! Problem #1, I'm hooked! I wish I would have gone through these years ago! I will be keeping some of these to start my own personal collection. Problem #2, I believe some of these stamps may be very valuable. I don't want to sell those not knowing what I am doing and chance being fleeced. Problem #3, I have thousands, I mean THOUSANDS, of stamps. I'm overwhelmed! I am so very happy to find a forum that has so many knowledgeable people! Thank you in advance and I look forward to getting to know you all.

Welcome. Sounds like you've been bitten by the bug. As far as I know, there is no antidote.
I suppose this post might get moved into the Introduce Yourself area, but in the meantime, tell us what you've discovered so far...are these loose, or mounted in albums? U.S., world-wide or both?
As questions come up, pictures (scans) will always be helpful. You've come to the right place.

Welcome aboard Tonya You have joined a great forum. I joined only about three weeks ago and was quite surprised to see how many friendly and knowlegeable people are in here. Sorry to heat that you lost your full time position. I state this becasue my wife was also a police officer when I first met her - and no, I was not arrested by her She is now an accountant and has also been stung by the stamp collecting bug, therefore, the two of us collect. I have collected stamps since the age of 11. If you have any questions to ask in here, then please do not hesitate to do so and I hope that I will be able to help out In the meantime welcome aboard Cheers Bujutsu |

The reason I joined this forum was based on the friendliness of the people who are already members.
Some of the forums I looked at would out right call new people idiots.
I have definitely been bitten!
Almost all of the stamps are US. So far I have only found 3 foreign.
I have some errands to run, but when I get back I will start posting scans.
There are singles, line pairs, rows, plate blocks, books, bags, sheets, and albums. The stamps are from the 1800's to 1980.
Air mail, special delivery, postage due, duck stamps, postage, etc.
Thank you all for such a warm welcome! |

Quote: I have some errands to run, but when I get back I will start posting scans. Once the bug bites deeper, you will have no time for errands ! And get hubby into it to...or you'll have no time for him either ! Oh yes...... Lots of great folk here, really there are. And don't believe all they tell you..... Welcome Tonya, glad to have you here.
The more scans and questions the better! We all like to learn and see stuff we haven't seen before or in a while and to help out others.
There are so many facets and little interesting areas to stamp collecting that it is hard to know everything. So it is always good to have a spot to go where someone knows and can help. That is here!

Welcome, Tonya...
You may ask questions, and will get answers. There are many folks here who have soomething to contribute. Do not be afraid to post pictures! As stamp collecting is a visual hobby, it is best to post a scan of what you have a question about.
Feel free to show us interesting stamps, covers, etc. from your collection... we all like to learn something.
Have fun!

to the SCF Tonya. We have experts here (khj, Londonbus1, PhilB, etc.) and we have idiots (LaSwabbie and unnamed others) but most of all we have fun and learn a lot. Jump right in and we'll help where we can. |

Swabbie, just because you have the forearms of an Elephant and the biceps of a Gerbil you shouldn't call yourself an idiot. A mutant yes. But not an idiot. |

Welcome Tonya. You say "THOUSANDS" and "overwhelmed" while many of us on this Forum would more likely say "overjoyed". You'll see.... |
