I realize that this isn't the proper forum for this, but can't find. I am looking for a stamp club in my area or starting one. Anyone who has done this, where did you advertise? What do you need to set a club? Do you have bylaws etc. If so would appreciate any help you can give. Especially want to get younger children in club, keep them off the computer and Xbox, and maybe something a little educational.
Help, in way over head.

Jay-

I'd start out with APS, to see what resources they have. If you aren't already traveling a bit to a western Michigan club, I'd start doing that, too.

If you find a club that you like, maybe you can get a little help to spin off a club. It would be easier than reinventing the wheel.

I see that there is a club on the north side of Kalamazoo, for instance.

My .02.

there are some resources available from the APS's club department. Try a search for stamp club ideas, articles, do's/don'ts.

I'd say jump right in -- put an ad in the local paper, post it on the Internet somewhere and have an organization meeting.

Then you'll have a few other people interested in starting a club and all of you can work on it together. Maybe some of them will have experience with other clubs and that will be an asset.

The first meeting doesn't have to be "perfect" -- it's just a starting point.

Thanks all! Think I'm gonna do it. Have no clue how many collectors are even around here!

Good Luck! Here are some suggestions. See if there are any stamp/coin/postcard/collectibles dealers in your area or any other collecting clubs for cross-collectors. Check out flea markets, antique/resale shops, etc. I would also chat with your local postmasters. These type of places and people may know of some stamp collectors. Another good source could be historical, museum, genealogy societies. Of course, don't forget Scouting and schools to draw in younger collectors.
