I recently came into a bunch of stamps. I am a member of the COIN community. I would like some help on this stamp. It is coiled?? on 3 sides and perforated on one. Is this unusual or valuable.
Thanks

I am not an expert, but this stamp could have had its perforations trimmed off or the left side was on the far edge of a sheet or pane of stamps or it could be printer waste. It is not that unusual or uncommon especially with a busy postal clerk and a pair of scissors.

The stamp looks to be from the 1922-1925 regular issues which could be Scott #'s 554,577,579,583,595,599-99A,606,634-34A. They all had a similar design with slight differences.

I too would say that this stamp was 'trimmed'. You will note on the left-hand side of the stamp that the margin is wider at the bottom and narrows out at the top.

Cheers

Another opinion, it looks to me like this was a coil applied by a slightly misaligned machine. The perfs are totally gone on one side, and abnormally long on the other side, which says to me that it was just cut wrong as it came off the coil. The centering is pretty normal for this issue. That would make it a 599. The scan's not clear enough to make out whether it's a 599A or not....

murty, welcome to the stamp side! This is definitely a perf 10 vertical coil stamp. That narrows the choices down to 599 and 599A. There is no evidence of 3 heavy lines of hair the crown of the head so that makes it a 599. It is common for this issue to have coil stamps applied by a machine and as abohart suggested. The machines did often miscut the coils leaving a slightly angled cut a not directly centered over the perforations. I have several of these in which the machine cut actually sliced through the design and left full perf holes with paper on both sides of the holes. Sorry, but it has no monetary value.
